Blogging on Medium.com

I record my notes, exploration logs and wanderings in digital territories on the Medium.com platform. There, I cover:

  • Free software and learning the GNU/Linux ecosystem
  • Experiments with RaspberryPi
  • Insights on my graphic creations and voxel manipulations

Tech Notes & Geek Stuff

Medium.com is a blend of social network and writing tool, created in 2012 by the founders of Twitter and Blogger. I plan to migrate my content to this static site hosted on Gitlab. My posts are in English, consistent with the open-source communities that inspire me and build themselves through the sharing of ideas and resources.

Free Software

My side project for several years has been to transition my personal computing tools to a FOSS environment free & Open Source Software . The underlying motivation for this project is twofold: - To limit the spread of personal information to platforms and services that often disregard individual rights - To discover new tools, workflows, and methods.

Free and Open Source Software

Transitioning to a primary desktop environment powered by GNU/Linux is neither a natural nor an obvious process, though alternative solutions to Silicon Valley giants have gained visibility in recent years. These solutions offer diverse approaches to the traditional desktop metaphor, new ways of thinking about the relationship to work tools, and, of course, place particular emphasis on collaboration and sharing.

In terms of use, the ease of getting started with various distributions, after months of trial and error, of course, surpasses proprietary operating systems for my needs. And the UNIX philosophy - Keep it simple, stupid - at the core of these environments' design is refreshing.

This blog thus traces my migrations, discoveries, experiments, and refinements across multiple distributions and tools, from desktop environment ricing , to securing content and personal data, creating backup and automation scripts.

RaspberryPi

I also document notes on Raspberry Pi , exploring the potential of this low-cost "Single-Board Computer": media center, personal server, surveillance device... the playground is vast. Alongside the blog, I share on Gitlab my installation and optimization scripts.

Pixels

The last pillar of the blog: pixels and voxels ! Notes and experiences on image manipulation and various digital creations, some of which are illustrated on the blog.
