Pixels and graphic creations

I love pixels, their rectilinear precision, and the creative space they offer. And what's better than a pixel? Pixels in three dimensions: voxels.

MagicaVoxel is a powerful and free tool for creating 3D voxel content (3D pixels) and working on rendering. It's available for Mac and Windows, and works on Linux through Wine.

Goxel is an insteresting alternative as it has a native Linux port through Flatpak.

I mainly use these tools to recreate buildings and interiors in voxel art, aiming for a simplified 3D pixel art style with optimized lighting in the rendering phase. It brings back the immediate, intuitive pleasure I had as a kid using the 3D engines of certain video games (notably Quake 3) to create familiar environments.

I wandered the whole earth. Between my long journeys, I would return like a pilgrim brought back by memory, each time saying to myself that nothing from distant lands was as peaceful or as beautiful as this hidden corner of our Saintonge.

Myst

Myst is a video game released in 1993. It was my gateway into a medium that still fascinates me. Myst is a contemplative puzzle game that showcases the power of writing to shape and link worlds. A fantastic experience at the time, extended masterfully by its direct sequel, Riven. The series is still ongoing, with varying success across episodes.
